Review: Evernote for the iPhone

By zappybox

This is yet another free app for the iPhone I am reviewing because I am too cheap to spend money on an app to review. Anyway, Evernote is an online note keeping service that allows the user to make notes, take clips from web sites, photos with printed or hand written text, screen grabs and more, store them, then Evernote runs these things through a series of recognizers and finds the text in any of these things and makes that text searchable.

Now with the back story out of the way, Evernote has made an iPhone app that allows you to access their service on the iPhone itself. This is great, and the app is well thought out and works wonderfully. You can create a text note in the app or make a note from one of the photos you have stored on your iPhone. This comes in handy. Let’s say you saw this great sign and took a picture of it with your iPhone. Save it to Evernote, it will sync up to their servers within minutes and by the time you get home it’s there waiting for you and all you have to do to find it, is search for what the sign said and Evernote will bring back search results and more than likely one of them will be the photo you just synced.

Evernote is a free service and the app for the PC, Mac, and iPhone are all free. I would strongly recommend taking a look at Evernote. Especially since I can’t properly convey it’s functionality with words.
